Tips for Protecting Your Photos from Damage
Your family photos contain some of the most precious memories. Protecting them is of utmost importance. Here are some tips on how to guard your photos from all types of damage:
- Don’t store your photos near a water heater, fireplace, or in a warm attic.
- Don’t store your family treasures in a basement that can flood or near a pipe that can burst.
- If there’s a storm, use surge protectors to protect your computers/hard drives. Unplug these electronics during a storm to be extra safe.
- Keep negatives separated in negative sleeves.
- Keep photos in acid-free albums away from dust/dirt.
- Consider making copies of your photos and storing them in separate locations.
- If you have digital photos that you’re worried about, always be sure to save them on an external harddrive.
